Stanford University Liver Transplant Program

Welcome

Liver transplantation began at Stanford University in 1991 as part of the Multi-Organ Transplant Program. In 1995, Dr. Carlos Esquivel and his team from San Francisco moved to Stanford. During the past eight years at Stanford, this team performed a total of 550 adult and pediatric liver transplantations at Stanford University Medical Center, with excellent survival rates. The total cumulative experience of Dr. Esquivel and his team in San Francisco and Stanford is now over 1200 liver transplantations.

Welcome to the Liver Transplant Program Web Site. We have included information on our program results, types of liver transplant services that are available, personnel and general information on indications for transplantation and post-transplant management. We have also put our Liver Bulletin on-line, which contains information of interest on a broad spectrum of liver diseases.

This website, which was originally developed in part by volunteer contributions from liver transplant recipients, is periodically updated by the professional staff at Stanford.
