Bioterrorism plan widely available

The medical center has recently published its Bioterrorism and Emergency Preparedness Plan in a comprehensive, illustrated binder. The publication lists bioterrorism agent descriptions, symptoms of exposure, protocols for treatment and worksheets for medical professionals who confront biological agents in the emergency room.

Copies of the binder have been distributed to all nursing units and clinical areas throughout Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Copies were also sent to numerous state and federal agencies as well as national political leaders, including key congressional and Cabinet figures.

Inspired by a national call for emergency preparedness after Sept. 11, the binder is the product of a task force comprised largely of infectious disease and emergency medicine specialists at Stanford.

For a copy of the binder, call Lou Saksen at (650) 723-7108.

The plan is also available online at www.bioterrorism.stanfordhospital.com or www.bioterrorism.lpch.org.
