Comprehensive hearing device program

The Stanford Audiology and Advanced Hearing Devices program, part of the Department of Otololaryngology, offers the full range of hearing aids and other assistive listening devices at 801 Welch Road, Palo Alto.

“People don’t usually think of Stanford when they think ‘hearing aids’, but we have the most high tech, comprehensive program around, and we can provide any type of hearing device that a patient needs,” said Gerald R. Popelka, professor and chief of audiology.

“Even if you or a patient have not received benefit from a hearing aid or were considered not to be a candidate for a hearing aid in the last few years, it is worth reevaluating in light of the new technological advances that current high-tech hearing aids can provide,” Popelka said.

“Because hearing aids require physical fittings and ongoing adjustments, licensed and certified audiologists and physicians work over the long term with patients in a personalized and customized manner. Whether it is digital hearing aids, remote control devices, implantable devices or adjusting an existing hearing aid, each patient’s hearing problem is considered unique.”

With 12 million Americans 55 and older having age-related hearing loss, and all of us getting older, it is no wonder that people are looking more and more to the hearing aid market, Popelka added.
