for incoming and outgoing students
Meanwhile, 93 percent of Stanford medical school graduates “matched” to one of their top three choices of residency programs this year, compared with a national average of 84.6 percent of students who received one of their top three choices, Pizzo said in his March 24 Dean’s e-newsletter.
At Stanford 90 students participated in the match program.
Nearly 60 percent of the Stanford class won’t be traveling far, since that figures represents the 30 students who matched with Stanford programs, including SHC and other hospitals affiliated with the medical school. Fourteen graduates matched with Harvard programs, while eight students will be headed to UCSF.
This year’s most popular residency choices included pediatrics, 12 placements; internal medicine, 11; anesthesia, 10; emergency medicine and radiology, both 6. While only 4 students are pursuing general surgery, 16 students matched in various surgical specialties, the dean said.
“From my perspective, all the students did splendidly and have much to be proud of. I offer each of them my congratulations,” Pizzo wrote.
