Sibley named new medical director of clinical labs

Richard Sibley, professor of pathology and co-director of surgical pathology, is the new medical director of the clinical laboratories as of July 1, announced chief operating officer Mike Peterson. "We are grateful to Dr. Sibley for being willing to serve the medical center in this significant way," Peterson said.

Sibley, a clinical/surgical pathologist, has been at Stanford for 17 years, and his work has focused on renal and transplant pathology. He and his colleague Michael Hendrickson, also a professor of pathology, will continue to serve as the co-directors of surgical pathology. Sibley is taking over the role from Steven Foung, associate professor of pathology.

"We thank Dr. Foung for his nearly five years of dedicated service to the medical center in this role, and especially for his leadership during the transitions with UC-San Francisco, the consolidation of the clinical laboratories at SHC and LPCH, and the establishment of the clinical laboratory outreach program," Peterson said. Foung will be devoting more effort to his research program and will assume part of his previous responsibilities in the transfusion service.
