Music program serves patients

Portable CD players and expert advice about finding appropriate and soothing music for a hospital stay is available by calling pager 1-6252 or (650) 723-7172.

The program is led by Maureen Draper, a pianist, teacher, and author of a book on the healing power of music. Draper is available in the hospital on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and her intern, Elsie Lee-Floyd, is available from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays. On weekends, bedside music is offered by Tracy Hadnott and Annie Sung.

The service is provided as part of the Office of Community and Patient Relations' music program. Marion Silverbear, program coordinator, said Draper and her associates "can help a patient find the right music to soothe and calm, to energize, and to carry the hope and vitality of health."
