EDWARD HARRIS, George DeForest Barnett Professor of Medicine, Emeritus, received the Distinguished Rheumatologist Award from the American College of Rheumatology during the ACR Annual Scientific Meeting in October. The Distinguished Rheumatologist Award is given each year to an ACR member who has made outstanding contributions in the areas of patient care, clinical scholarship, or service to patients with rheumatic diseases.

CRAIG MILLER, professor of cardiothoracic surgery, has been named the recipient of the Santa Clara County Medical Association's 2004 "Outstanding Achievement Award in Medicine."



SAM GAMBHIR, professor of radiology; and ROBERT S. NEGRIN, professor of medicine and program director of the Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program, each received two of the four 2004 Distinguished Clinical Scientist Awards in "Bench-to-Bedside Research" from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Gambhir's project is entitled "Molecular Imaging of Cancer with a Voltage Sensor," and Negrin's project is "Regulatory T Cells in Bone Marrow Transplantation." The awards were announced Oct. 28 in New York.

THOMAS KRUMMEL, Emile Holman Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at SUMC and Susan B. Ford Surgeon-in-Chief at LPCH, has been elected a director of the prestigious James IV Association of Surgeons, headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland. The 40-year-old association promotes worldwide surgical research and methods.

GRIFFITH HARSH has been appointed to professor of neurosurgery.


WARE KUSCHNER has been promoted to associate professor of medicine (pulmonary and critical care medicine).

ANN LEUNG has been promoted to professor of radiology.



MICHAEL MOSELEY has been promoted to professor of radiology.

JAMES QUINN has been appointed to associate professor of surgery (emergency medicine).

JUDITH SHIZURU has been promoted to associate professor of medicine (bone marrow transplant).


RANDALL STAFFORD has been promoted to associate professor of medicine.


SIMON STERTZER has been appointed to professor of medicine.

SUSAN SWETTER has been promoted to associate professor of dermatology.
