Anthrax
threat slows DEA renewal process |

Medical staff members who need to renew licenses with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration in the next few months are being advised to send in their renewals as quickly as possible. The DEA last November temporarily stopped all mail deliveries to its Washington, DC, office because of anthrax concerns. The mail stoppage also slowed the delivery of application forms to physicians who need to renew their licenses. DEA officials say they are still working to clear the backlog of both outgoing and incoming mail. Local DEA field offices are currently processing applications, but the process is considerably slower than normal. Because of the delays, physicians are advised to submit their DEA license renewal information as soon as they receive the form. Paperwork and questions should be directed to the DEA San Francisco Field Division, 450 Golden Gate Ave., 14th Floor, P.O. Box 36035, San Francisco, CA, 94102 or by calling (415) 436-7854. Detailed
