School, SHC join initiative to improve patient service

A joint School of Medicine and SHC initiative to improve the quality of clinic patient service has been established under the guidance of family medicine specialist Joe Hopkins, associate chief of staff; and gynecologist Jerry Shefren, vice president/ambulatory care.

In his e-newsletter, Dean Philip A. Pizzo called the initiative "a most important effort aimed at incentivizing clinical departments and service leaders, faculty and staff to work with SHC to improve the patient experience." The initiative is expected to address four broad areas during the coming year:

Supply and demand management

Waits and delays in clinics

Telephone Services

Communications with referring physicians
(2nd quarter of 2005)
.
