LOOK, NO PAPER CHARTS

- Computer terminals, such as these being demonstrated recently for caregivers, will increasingly be available to physicians on nursing units. A program to convert medication orders and nursing orders from handwritten to electronic records will be phased in gradually at SHC starting in January. Called the Electronic Multi-Disciplinary Documentation Project, the transition will eventually offer such features as "real time" bar coded medication charting and patient care documentation that can be viewed securely at several terminals.
