Here are the faculty awards presented June 12 during the School of Medicine's annual diploma ceremony on the Dean's Lawn. (The University Commencement Ceremony, which included School of Medicine graduates, was held the following day.) This year, the Medical School presented 23 master of science degrees, 70 doctor of philosophy degrees and 90 doctor of medicine degrees.

The Arthur L. Bloomfield Award: In Recognition of Excellence in the Teaching of Clinical Medicine - STEVEN GUEST, associate professor of medicine; MYER ROSENTHAL, professor of medicine and surgery; and BARRY ROSEN, clinical associate professor of medicine.

The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Award: For Excellence in Preclinical Teaching - GREGORY GILBERT, clinical instructor, surgery and emergency medicine; JOHN GOSLING, teaching professor, surgery and anatomy; and ELLIOT WOLFE, director of the office of medical student professional development.

The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Award: For Outstanding and Innovative Contributions to Medical Education - JULIE PARSONNET, associate professor of medicine (infectious diseases).

The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Award: For Excellence in Clinical Teaching - BARRY ROSEN, clinical associate professor of medicine; MYER ROSENTHAL, professor of anesthesia, medicine, and surgery; and THOMAS KRUMMEL, professor and chair, Department of Surgery.

The Franklin G. Ebaugh, Jr. Award: For Advising Medical Students - THEODORE SECTISH, assistant professor of pediatrics.

The Lance Armstrong Award and The Compassion in Medicine Award - LARS OSTERBERG, clinical instructor, School of Medicine.

The Alwin C. Rambar-James B.D. Mark Award: For Excellence in Patient Care - LORRY R. FRANKEL, associate professor of pediatrics (intensive care).

Stanford University School of Medicine Award for Graduate Teaching and the Stanford University School of Medicine Award for Outstanding Service to Graduate Student - W. JAMES NELSON, professor of molecular and cellular physiology.
