Oncologist George A. Fisher, associate professor of medicine, right, joins Cancer Center nurse manager Donna Healy May 5 in preparing root beer floats during SHC Nurse Week festivities. Fisher was among a dozen medical staff members who pitched in to serve their nursing colleagues during the week-long celebration honoring the nursing staff.

Nurse week scholarship winners

The Medical Staff presented two $500 scholarships to Stanford nurses in May as part of Nurse Week celebrations.

Betty Bennett Morse, an endoscopy nurse, said she will use her stipend to attend the annual Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates meeting. She is a veteran of more than 20 years of Stanford nursing.

The other winner was Lifeflight nurse Leisa Ann Steele, who said she plans to use her stipend to attend the national Emergency Nurses Association Annual Conference in September. She recently joined Stanford from another emergency air transport program.

The scholarships, authorized from medical staff dues to honor nurses each year, were presented during brief Nurse Week ceremonies May 4 by Medical Staff President Bruce Adornato and Chief of Staff Larry Shuer.
