NIMH study seeks memory patient referrals

A Stanford University research team headed by psychiatry professor Jerome Yesavage is conducting a National Institute of Mental Health-sponsored double-blind study on a treatment for memory problems.

The study combines the medication donepezil with a memory training program. The two-week memory course provides information on various aspects of memory and aging, and teaches techniques designed to improve memory. Study participation lasts one year.

Physicians are invited to refer or inform patients who meet the following criteria:

With memory complaints

55 years and older

Free of dementia (such as AlzheimerÕs)

Willing to take a medication (donepezil)
