Faculty honored at Commencement for patient care, teaching, mentoring

William Benitz, the Philip Sunshine, MD, Professor in Neonatology, received The Alwin C. Rambar-James B.D. Mark Award for Excellence in Patient Care at Stanford Medical School’s Commencement ceremonies on June 17.

The annual award recognizes a member of the medical faculty for compassion in working with patients and their families, excellence in providing medical treatment and effectiveness and pleasantness in interactions with patient-care staff.

The Rambar award was established in 1985 to honor the late Rambar, a Chicago pediatrician long associated with Stanford medical school. It was renamed in 1997 to include Mark, a Stanford thoracic surgeon, former chief of staff and professor emeritus who was also Rambar’s son-in-law.
