The new Stanford Cancer Center has been open since March 1. Here are some quick facts about the services, facilities and amenities now - or soon - available for patients and families and the caregivers who support them.

The Stanford Cancer Center supports the following programs:

Building facts
-- 220,000 gross square feet (approx. 160,000 sq. ft. for cancer services)
-- Four stories (three for cancer services: basement, ground floor, second floor Ð we are currently evaluating how the additional space will be used)
-- 22,000 cubic yards of concrete -- 1.5 million pounds of lead shielding
-- 58 exam rooms -- 30 infusion chairs -- Six hematologic/BMT chairs
-- 27 infusion gurneys
-- Seven vaults for radiation therapy
-- Five linear accelerators Ð the most within a single building in the Bay Area
-- PET/CT Scan
-- Neuro treatment room
-- ENT treatment room
-- Meditation room
-- Outdoor "Zen" garden with waterfall
-- 47 faculty offices (approx. 20,000 sq. ft.)
-- 60-person conference area that can divide into three smaller rooms
-- State-of-the-art video/teleconferencing equipment, projectors, speakers

-- Cancer Concierge: A specially-appointed guide to help patients navigate the treatment process
-- Cancer-specific branch of the Stanford Health Library (free to patients and their families)
-- Valet parking
-- Flat panel television, headset and network connectivity at each infusion station
-- 40-inch flat-panel televisions with DVD players in waiting areas
-- Cafe
-- Two public spaces with Internet access
-- Nutritional counseling
-- Cancer Supportive Care services: Complementary medicine program that includes yoga classes, guided imagery workshops, and more. Acupuncture, hypnosis, and massage are also offered through the Stanford Center for Integrative Medicine (offsite)
-- On-site laboratory
-- Stanford infusion pharmacy
-- In-house Walgreens outpatient pharmacy
-- Boutique offering wigs, gifts and personal care items (opening this summer)
