New patient gowns, as modeled by SHC media coordinator Helen Allrich, debuted May 24.

Designer patient gowns debut

Patient gowns, intended to provide more dignity and comfort, entered service May 24 in four patterns - plaid, palm trees, shooting stars and paisley.

The gowns were designed by sleepwear designer Karen Neuburger and SHC nurses. "They are soft, cover better than conventional gowns and have ties, rather than snaps, which are more comfortable for the patients," said Barbara Odin, E2ICU nurse manager. "They close beautifully in the back, so patients feel more "confident" while getting up."

The new gowns are made of comfortable material that covers more of the patient while allowing easy access for nurses.

In addition to the gowns - which are just for patients - a special retail line of pajamas, night gowns, fuzzy socks and more will be available for purchase in the SHC gift shop - at a discount price for all employees. Also, a new line of Karen Neuburger scrubs for employees is reportedly in the works.
