awards and honors:
CLETE A. KUSHIDA, associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, was elected as secretary-treasurer of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine for a three-year term starting in July. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, American Sleep Medicine Foundation, and American Board of Sleep Medicine. He is also the immediate past chair of the Standards of Practice Committee of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
SAMUEL LEBARON, professor of family medicine and director of the Stanford Center for Education in Family and Community Medicine, has been named California Family Physician of the Year by the California Academy of Family Physicians. The CAFP, which announced the honor May 10, annually honors a family physician “who represents the finest characteristics of the specialty, and goes above and beyond in service to patients, colleagues and the community.”
PETER LEE, assistant professor of medicine (hematology), was among the 64 new members recently elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation, an honor society of physician-scientists founded in 1908 to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to bench-to-bedside practice. Fifty-one of the 2,800 ASCI members are at Stanford.
DAVID STEVENSON, vice dean of the Medical School and professor of pediatrics, was recently chosen to receive the Virginia Apgar Award. The Section on Perinatal Pediatrics of the American Academy of Pediatrics gives this award annually to an individual whose career has had a continuing influence on the well being of newborn infants

DAVID WEILL has been appointed to associate professor of medicine (pulmonary and critical care).
CYNTHIA WONG has been appointed to assistant professor of pediatrics.
