WiFi comes for patients – and for staff for nonmedical uses

Patients, or anyone else, can use wireless internet access (wi-fi) throughout virtually the entire hospital to check email, surf the web or look up websites.

“We’ve been pushing for this for a long time, and it should prove quite useful and convenient,” said Chief of Staff Bryan D. Bohman in a May 19 “dear colleagues” e-mail. In the interest of efficiency and controlling capacity on the wireless network, Bohman has asked physicians to use hospital computers, not the wi-fi, for clinical applications when working at SHC.

A generic password to access the wi-fi is given to patients and families and is available from unit staff throughout the hospital.
