MYRIAM CURET, associate professor of surgery (general surgery) has been chosen as a recipient of this year’s Association for Surgical Education’s Outstanding Teacher Award. The award is presented annually by the association to recognize the dedication of surgical educators.
JOHN W. FARQUHAR, professor of medicine and of health research and policy, emeritus, won the 2005 Fries Prize, the first Stanford recipient in the award’s 14-year history. The prize, established by emeritus medicine professor JAMES FRIES, is granted by the Healthtrac Foundation to “that individual who has done the most to improve health”.
Physicians recently appointed to endowed professorships include: DAVID N. CORNFIELD, appointed as the first holder of the Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professorship in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine; and NORMAN W. RIZK, appointed as the Berthold and Bell N. Guggenhime Professor.

WALDO CONCEPCION has been appointed to associate professor of surgery.

LAWRENCE V. HOFMANN has been appointed to associate professor of radiology.
MARTIN ANGST has been promoted to associate professor of anesthesia.
