AWARDS and HONORS:
STEVEN A. LEIBEL has been appointed the first Ann and John Doerr Medical Director of Stanford’s Clinical Cancer Center. The honor, made possible by a $4 million gift from the Doerrs, is earmarked for the incumbent cancer center director. Leibel, professor of radiation oncology, became the first Stanford cancer center director in July 2004. John Doerr is a prominent Silicon Valley venture capitalist.
MICHAEL T. LONGAKER, Deane P. and Louise Mitchell Professor in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, was elected in February in Phoenix as the 69th president of the Society of University Surgeons (SUS) for a one-year term, 2007-2008. Announcing the honor, Dean Philip A. Pizzo noted that the SUS is “widely recognized as the world’s premier organization dedicated to the advancement of surgical sciences.” Longaker is also chair of the 52nd annual meeting of the Plastic Surgery Research Council, June 20-23 at Stanford.

CHRISTOPH B. EGGER HALBEIS has been promoted to clinical assistant professor of anesthesia.
TRACY KUO has been promoted to clinical assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.
NANCY MORIOKA-DOUGLAS has been promoted to clinical professor of medicine.
YASODHA NATKUNAM has been promoted to associate professor of pathology.
SUNITA PAL has been promoted to clinical assistant professor of radiology.
JEFFREY H. REESE has been promoted to clinical professor of urology.
LINDSEY GC VOKACH-BRODSKY has been promoted to clinical associate professor of anesthesia.
DOUGLAS WALLACE has been appointed to clinical associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery.
STEPHEN BRYAN WILLIAMS has been promoted to clinical assistant professor of medicine.
FRANCES WREN has been appointed to assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.
JOSEPH C. WU has been appointed to assistant professor of radiology.
IMAD YAMOUT has been promoted to clinical assistant professor of anesthesia.
