Stanford, Packard hospitals announce new chief information officer

Martha Marsh, president and CEO of Stanford Hospital & Clinics, and Christopher Dawes, president and CEO of Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, have announced the appointment of Carolyn Byerly as the new chief information officer of both hospitals. The appointment is effective June 2.

"We are very excited to have Carolyn join our management team. She has achieved outstanding success in her work with hospitals, clinics and physician organizations," Marsh said. "Her successful leadership in information systems will be very important to us as we focus on selecting and implementing information technology designed to improve quality, service and financial strength," Marsh added.

Byerly comes to the hospitals with an extensive record of accomplishment in information systems development, implementation and management, most recently as CIO of Lovelace Health Systems in Albuquerque, N.M. Before that, Byerly spent four years as CIO at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, in addition to previous experience with Good Samaritan Health System in San Jose and Children's Hospital in San Francisco, which is now merged with Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center.

"This appointment is an important step forward for both hospitals," Dawes said.

"We are confident Carolyn will do an excellent job leading our efforts to craft a vision for information system services that focuses on a common approach to systems integration." Byerly will replace Richard Rydell, who has been serving as interim CIO
