Physicians needed to serve on SHC's medical staff committees

For many members of SHC's medical staff, serving on one of the medical staff committees is a valuable part of their professional experience, giving them the chance to work with colleagues to solve problems, improve care and/or service, and influence hospital policy on such key areas as information systems, infection control, ethics and quality improvement.

The 11 committees, which are commissioned by the hospital's bylaws and report to the SHC medical board, are comprised primarily of medical staff members, with staff from ancillary departments making up the rest of the membership. Most committees meet monthly, and membership terms run for three years beginning Sept. 1 of each year.

Many memberships will be up for renewal this fall and all vacancies will need to be filled. Medical staff members are encouraged to join the committee of their choice. To be considered for membership, please contact medical staff services before Aug. 1. All committee appointments are made by chief of staff Larry Shuer.

The medical staff committees and their chairs are as follows:

Care review Larry Shuer
Clinical cancer steering committee
Richard Hoppe

The bylaws committee and nominating committee are ad hoc groups appointed by the chief of staff when the need arises.
Some of the committees have subcommittees, such as the CPR subcommittee to the critical care committee. The subcommittees are also seeking physician members.
