JCAHO survey successful using more relevant process

JCAHO surveyors were highly complimentary of Stanford Hospital and Clinics following a triennial accreditation review in April conducted using a new methodology based on patient results instead of record keeping.

"I believe there was a paradigm shift in how this survey was conducted by JCAHO and perceived by the hospital community," said family practice physician Joe Hopkins, associate chief of staff and chair of the SHC's Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Committee.

"We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but I believe we are truly on the way to meeting our goal of becoming the best medical center in the nation," said CEO Martha Marsh in an e-mail to SHC management staff sent April 16, the last day of the four day site visit. "In their closing remarks the surveyors were highly complimentary of our organization," said Marsh.
