Elected Medical Staff leaders start jobs

Bryan D. Bohman began serving May 1 as SHC’s first physician-elected chief of staff.

With the changeover, the office of president that Bohman formerly held will be eliminated. Bohman leads a team that includes vice COS/COS-elect Geoff Rubin, professor and chief of the Section of Cardiovascular Imaging in the Department of Radiology, and Debra Green, newly appointed director of Medical Staff Services. The new Medical Staff structure will coordinate closely with the hospital’s recently appointed physician vice president for medical affairs, Kevin Tabb, Bohman noted.

Bohman succeeds Larry Shuer, who for 12 years has served as chief of staff jointly appointed by the dean of the medical school and the president and CEO of SHC. Shuer is slated to continue his faculty practice as a neurosurgeon and will also serve in a variety of hospital leadership and oversight posts. Additionally, he is expected to remain associate dean for graduate medical affairs.

“These recent multiple leadership changes have created a unique opportunity for us to reassess many aspects of our Medical Staff organization and to consider new ways to better serve our Medical Staff and patients,” said Bohman. “We would greatly value any suggestions from Medical Staff members. Meanwhile, we salute Larry Shuer as he moves on to new challenges and opportunities. A reception in Larry’s honor is scheduled for May 28, at5 5:30 p.m. in the SHC Atrium. We encourage Medical Staff members to attend and show their appreciation for his extraordinary 12 years of service as chief of staff.”
