Bay Area charities, including Stanford Hospital and Clinics and The Health Library at Stanford, will receive donations from a one-day discount shopping event at Bloomingdale's in Stanford Shopping Center. The event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. In exchange for a $10 ticket, shoppers will receive a 15 percent discount off everything in the store except cosmetics and fragrances. Bloomingdale's will donate a portion of the day's receipts to selected charities, including the American Cancer Society Silicon Valley, the Community Breast Health Project, The Health Library at Stanford, Northern California Cancer Center, Ronald McDonald House at Stanford, as well as Stanford University Medical Center. A variety of entertainment and special events have been planned throughout the 12-hour event, Bloomingdale's said. A free admission coupon to the charity discount shopping spree will be available at the ice cream social being held on Thursday, Sept. 9, in recognition of the medical school's move to Palo Alto 40 years ago. The coupons are barcoded to designate Stanford University Medical Center as the selected charity. Coupons are also available for purchase at the door for $10 on event day, Bloomingdale's said. For further information about the event, call Amy Fife, at the Stanford Office of Medical Development, (650) 498-7629. |
