Physicians, others prepare for March 19-23 accreditation visit 

The triennial Consolidated Accreditation and Licensure Survey (CALS) visit for Stanford Hospital and Clinics is scheduled March 19-23. 

Teams of physicians, nurses and other professionals from three organizations visit the hospital. Additional information will be provided to help physicians understand their role in complying with the standards and regulations. 

The three teams visiting the hospital include: 

    JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), which ranks medical centers on a comparative 100-point scale. DHS (State of California Department of Health Services - Licensing & Certification Division). This group determines compliance with state regulations. CMA (California Medical Association). Physicians from the CMA join the surveyors on the last day of the visit and evaluate, on behalf of JCAHO and DHS, such physician-related issues as medical records compliance.
