Credentialing Staff Honored at Banquet

The credentialing office, which in the past few years has accomplished an overhaul of the system for credentialing and privileging of medical staff members, was honored in May with the Malinda S. Mitchell Award for Service Quality.

The award was presented by Mitchell to Rachel Deming, director of professional practice services, and several members of the credentialing office, including Jeri Paley, administrative assistant, and Karolyn Green, credentialing coordinator. Other staff honored but not present were Wena Talingdan and Nina Tsang, credentialing coordinators. Also acknowledged at the awards ceremony were Lawrence M. Shuer, chief of staff; surgeon Walter Cannon, chair of the credentialing committee; and Cindy Day, vice president for care coordination and patient support services, to which the credentials office reports.

Mitchell lauded the group for a number of improvements, including significantly enhancing efficiency in processing appointments and reappointments, implementing a medical staff database, and reengineering the provider enrollment process.

More than 550 Stanford Hospital and Clinics employees, physicians, and guests attended the 1998 Employee Awards Banquet at Hyatt Rickeys in Palo Alto.

Carlota Soliz, operations assistant in nursing service for the medical/surgical region, received the Thomas A. Gonda Employee of the Year Award. The annual honor, named after a former hospital director and chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, recognizes dedicated and exemplary service. Soliz has worked at the hospital for 26 years.

Five "special awards" were also presented to employees for their contributions and achievements. This year's recipients were Monica Mayberry, assistant clinic manager, immunology; Magno Gonzales, operations manager, housekeeping; Barbara Lakin, nursing assistant, D ground; Williamina Gridley, risk management specialist, risk management; and Craig Forte, clinical social worker, partial hospitalization.

Awards for length of service were presented to nearly 300 employees.
